Finding a therapist who you can connect with is so important. Whether or not that person is me, I want you to know that healing is possible. Therapy can provide a new framework for relating to yourself with increased compassion, acceptance, and curiosity. I strive to cultivate an environment of trust, collaboration, nonjudgment, and exploration. Therapy is the perfect place to experiment and make mistakes—I welcome yours and hope you will forgive mine!
I take a holistic, person-centered approach to healing, integrating attachment theory, mindfulness, inner child/parts work, third wave cognitive behavioral therapies, and EMDR. I believe in working with, rather than against, psychological defenses to understand and appreciate their adaptive function. Nobody wants to feel pain, yet oftentimes the strategies we come up with to avoid it lose their utility and cause more suffering. Therapy isn’t about getting rid of pain but learning to tolerate it so we’re able to experience the full spectrum of emotions.
I’ve worked with adults struggling with depression, anxiety, grief/loss, trauma, addiction/self-medicating behavior, chronic illness, and codependency. I don’t place huge emphasis on diagnosis and view each therapeutic encounter as unique, which I believe opens space for greater authenticity and change. If I seem like I might be a good fit for you, please reach out and we can talk!
